Interesting Impaired Driving Case

I see an interesting case on the Provincial Court web site:

http://www.provincialcourt.bc.ca/judgments/pc/2009/02/p09_0298.htm

This is a first time offender who received a significant penalty after pleading guilty to a charge of impaired driving and a charge of leaving the scene of an accident. He was originally charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm and dangerous driving.

Judge K.D. Skilnick comments on rehabilitation and deterrence in his sentencing. In addition to a fine of $3,500 and a 3 year driving prohibition the accused is subject to community work service, alcohol prohibition, substance abuse counseling and a personal apology to the victims involved.

The case also contains a good description of current impaired driving sentencing guidelines for Canadian courts.
